Research Impact Fund
Investing in early-stage companies with Georgia Tech intellectual property
Our Investment Criteria
Stage
We invest in early stage companies. Our sweet spot for initial checks is pre-seed or seed, though we’ll do Series A rounds as well. We follow on in our top companies through Series A or B.
Thesis
We are generalist investors. We look at companies across industries (such as climate, robotics, AI, consumer, hard tech, SaaS) and business models (such as B2B, B2C, B2G).
What We Look For
We are looking to invest in the best and brightest Georgia Tech founders that are building unique solutions to big problems.

How We Deploy Capital
Our investment approach focuses on deploying capital into the best early-stage companies in the Georgia Tech community.
What is your check size range? Do you do follow-ons?
We write checks of up to $450k. Initial checks range from $50K to $250K and follow-on checks range from $50K to $450K. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
Do you lead deals?
At the moment we do not lead deals, so we rely on someone else coming in to price the round.
What does your diligence process look like?
Our investment committee meets once a month. We invite 2-3 companies to come and pitch each session. From there, we do our deep dive and make decisions on the timeline that aligns with your close date.
What types of financings do you participate in?
We participate on all security types, including convertible notes, SAFEs and preferred equity rounds.
Do you have ownership targets?
Currently, we do not have ownership targets.
Does my IP license need to be secured before investment?
Yes, the license needs to be in place prior to investment. You can, however, come in to pitch prior to having the license secured as long as it will be in place before an investment closes.
